The old CBC Calgary building next to the Bow River has officially been sold to a Vancouver-based real estate firm.

Anthem Properties Group Ltd. bought the roughly one-hectare site at 1724 Westmount Blvd. N.W. in Hillhurst for $12 million, a spokesperson for the developer said.

The company plans to tear down the nearly 60-year-old broadcasting facility and develop townhouses "with panoramic views of the river valley and downtown Calgary," Anthem said on Wednesday.

According to Randene Neill, a spokesperson for Anthem, the development will be a three-storey, multifamily development with 84 units.

"After spending more than a year connecting with the community, neighbours, property owners and the local community association, an initial design has been submitted to the City of Calgary for review," said Neill in an email. Details and the design for the development can be found on Anthem's website, Neill said.

CBC/Radio-Canada moved about four kilometres west last October to a new building at 1000 Veterans Pl. N.W.

Anthem says the company is working through the city's approval process for its planned development and is holding consultations with community members. Remediation on the building site will begin next week, Neill said, with demolition expected later this summer.

Neill said Anthem is working with the CBC to find an offsite location for the Roy Leadbeater iron sculpture installed in front of the building.
