Things could get a bit crazy in the southeast community of Radisson Heights on Friday.

That's because CBC Calgary is throwing a party for Cory Ulicny and Rob Morris — the winners of our Neighbour Day contest.

Ulicny nominated Morris, who is a single dad.

Even though Morris is busy taking care of his four-year-old daughter and working full time, Ulicny says he still finds time for his neighbours.

"He helped me replace my roof and install some windows and helped another neighbour dig out a window well and replace her basement window," said Ulicny.

"All he asks in return is a cold beer and some conversation."

It was on Monday that Morris found he had won the Neighbour Day contest.

Close to 300 submissions

"So it was kind of like a 'blah day.' And when I got home from work and heard that message, it put a smile on my face, and I still have a grin on my face," said Morris.

On June 19, CBC Calgary will host a party in Ulicny's backyard for 30 of his and Morris' friends. We'll also bring along two new barbecues, which we'll be leaving behind for the two neighbours.

And at the request of Morris' daughter, Kayla, a "juice box." That's right — just one juice box.

The event will include a live television and radio broadcast from the location in the afternoon.

Village Brewery will be providing refreshments. Food will be supplied by Calgary Co-op. All the invited friends and neighbours who come to the party will also receive Co-op gift certificates. Calgary country singer Matt Masters will be on hand to play a set.

The Calgary Eyeopener will be throwing its own Neighbour Day celebration between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on June 19. Drop by CBC Calgary on Memorial Dr. N.W. for a free coffee and a treat from Manuel Latruwe Belgian Patisserie and Bread Shop.

CBC Calgary got more than 200 submissions to our contest. We got such great submissions of stories of "neighbourliness" that we thought we would share them with you. Check out our interactive map.
