Man arrested after cat beaten to death

Calgary police arrested a man after a cat was fatally beaten in Penbrooke Meadows on Tuesday.

Calgary police called to southeast apartment building Tuesday night

A man was arrested Tuesday night after a cat was fatally beaten in Penbrooke Meadows.

Officers were called to an apartment in the 6200 block of 17th Avenue S.E. around 9:20 p.m. when someone reported hearing screaming.

Officers located and arrested the cat's owner, who is alleged to have struck and killed the animal with a stick or an object, police said.

Wayne Ogden Huston, 63, has been charged with one count of killing, maiming, wounding or poisoning a domestic cat and one count of unlawfully causing pain or suffering. He's set to appear in court on July 31.

Investigators are reviewing security camera footage from the scene.
