Lawrence Grassi Middle School was locked down while RCMP investigated
Canmore RCMP arrested a suspect several hours after a residential break and enter prompted the lockdown of a middle school.
Police were called on Tuesday at about 12:20 p.m. after a witness heard a "pop" from inside a home and reported seeing a hole in one of the windows, police said.
At first, it was unclear whether a suspect was still in the house or had fled, they added.
As a result, RCMP cordoned off the area and alerted the nearby Lawrence Grassi Middle School to keep students inside the building.
Police dogs and the RCMP Emergency Response Team cleared the house without finding the suspect, but officers located and arrested a person of interest in Canmore at about 8 p.m., RCMP said on Wednesday morning.
