Calgary Transit spokesperson Doug Morgan said this is a pilot project and feedback will be gathered to see how service could be improved.
“Our real concern is making sure it’s attractive to customers and we get ridership," he said. "Certainly it’s an investment that we have to do and we want to make sure that it’s useful and meets their needs."
Unlike previous years where Calgary Transit offered free service, regular fares will apply. It is estimated the cost will be around $100,000.
Mothers Against Drunk Driving praised Calgary for adding service hours on New Year's Eve.
"This additional service is going to be a big breakthrough for people who are looking to plan ahead and know that they have a safe ride home after the bars close," said MADD spokesperson Denise Dubyk.
