Pride Slide event at Canada Olympic Park cancelled because of poor ticket sales
Kickoff party was to feature a giant slide, DJs, drinks and drag queens
If you were hoping to have a fabulously good time sliding down Canada Olympic Park during Pride this year, you're about to be disappointed.
Calgary Pride, and WinSport, which operates the hill, announced the cancellation of a kickoff party scheduled for August 27 due to poor ticket sales.
A 246-metre slide was to be the main attraction at an 18-plus party with DJs, a cocktail garden and drag queens.
"Unfortunately, ticket sales did not live up to our expectations and with various deposit deadlines approaching, we could not wait any longer to make the decision to cancel the event," said WinSport president and CEO Barry M. Heck in a press release.
Full refunds are available for those who already purchased tickets.
Despite the cancellation of the party, WinSport is still moving ahead with the purchase of the giant slide and said it will "announce details of other slide opportunities in the coming weeks."
