Parents charged in baby boy's 2021 death in southeast Calgary

The parents of a toddler who died at a southeast Calgary home in 2021 have been charged in his death, police said Friday.

The parents of a toddler who died at a southeast Calgary home in 2021 have been charged in his death, police said Friday.

Police and EMS responded to a call on Oct. 5, 2021, that a child was in medical distress at a home in the 2800 block of 14th Avenue S.E. in Radisson Heights 

First responders found an unresponsive 18-month-old boy. Gabriel Sinclair-Pasqua was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following a lengthy investigation that resulted in the death being declared a homicide, the child's parents, Michael Sinclair, 30, and Sonya Pasqua, 33, were arrested Thursday.

Both have been charged with manslaughter. 

"For the past 16 months, we have worked tirelessly to ensure that those responsible for Gabriel's death were held accountable," said homicide unit Staff Sgt. Martin Schiavetta in a release.

"Our deepest condolences go out to those who continue to grieve Gabriel's loss."  

Sinclair and Pasqua will next appear in court on Feb. 22.
