Calgary officers issued more than 90 tickets to jaywalkers
Police handed out 40 warnings and wrote more than 90 tickets for jaywalking in roughly two hours in downtown Calgary Tuesday.
The officers targeting jaywalkers also found six people wanted on outstanding warrants ranging from criminal issues such as drugs to bylaw violations.
Police ticketed pedestrians at Seventh Avenue and Fifth Street S.W. who are supposed to avoid construction and use the other side of the road.
“Pedestrians coming down Seventh Avenue … simply ignored the sign, turned the corner and walked right down the lane, so right in front of traffic,” said Staff Sgt. Paul Stacey.
Tickets for jaywalking cost offenders $115.
