Calgary police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in northwest Calgary, saying it is suspicious in nature.

Around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, officers were called to a home in the community of Crescent Heights where they found a man in medical distress.

Police said EMS tried to save the man at the residence but he died of injuries he suffered during an altercation.

"One man has been taken into custody for questioning related to this event," reads a Calgary police statement.

"It is believed the victim and suspect are known to each other. Investigators are actively working to determine the circumstances that led up to this incident."

An autopsy was initially scheduled for Friday but police have postponed it to Sunday. More information will be released following its completion.
