Calgary police investigating head-on collision resulting in serious injuries

Two people are in hospital after a head-on collision occurred in the early morning hours of April 17, Calgary police said in a statement. 

At approximately 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, a Honda HRV that was travelling north on 14th Street N.W. crossed into the southbound lane near the north end of the Mewata Bridge, striking a Nissan Altima head on. 

Both the driver and the front seat passenger of the Honda were transported to hospital due to their injuries. Police said the driver, a 28-year-old female, suffered minor injuries, while the front seat passenger, a 36-year-old male, suffered serious, life-threatening injuries. 

The driver of the Nissan, a 23-year-old male, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene of the accident by EMS. 

Police said they are currently investigating the collision and that they believe alcohol could be factor.
