Calgary police are investigating an incident in the city's southeast after a man died of injuries they believe he sustained during an altercation.

According to a Calgary Police Service (CPS) statement, officers were called to Portico Lounge on 35 Street S.E. on Monday morning for reports that several people were involved in a disturbance outside of the venue.

CPS said they found indications that someone may have been in medical distress. They were later notified that a man was taken to Peter Lougheed Centre.

The man later died in hospital due to injuries.

"While the investigation is still in its early stages, officers believe that the man was likely injured during the disturbance outside of the Portico Lounge," the statement reads.

"It is believed that multiple witnesses have not yet come forward to police."

In a second statement sent Monday afternoon, police said they are looking for a black Dodge Caliber, with damage to the passenger side of the vehicle's rear end, believed to be connected to the incident.

CPS is asking anyone who might have information about the incident or how the injured man was taken to hospital to contact them.
