Police release images of vehicles of interest in fatal shooting of young man in McKenzie Lake
Matthew Maniago was shot to death in the city's southeast on Oct. 7, 2019
Police have issued new details in the shooting death of a Calgary man found lying in a street in the McKenzie Lake neighbourhood last year, releasing images of two vehicles seen in video footage.
Matthew Maniago was shot on Oct. 7, 2019, around 11:45 p.m. on the 100-block of Mt. Aberdeen Manor S.E. in the McKenzie Lake neighbourhood.
The 29-year-old was found lying in the street and died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds.
Police say video footage showed two vehicles — a blue 2017 Nissan Maxima and a white 2007 to 2009 Honda CRV — believed to be involved in the shooting.
The Nissan was stolen from a home in Wentworth two weeks prior to the shooting, according to police, and was recovered at the scene.
Police believe the Honda was stolen from a home in Douglasdale the day before the shooting and has not yet been recovered.
The two vehicles may have been in Killarney, in the city's southwest, prior to the killing.
Police say they think the killing was targeted.
"Matthew deserves justice, and we are begging anyone who knows anything to please come forward," said Matthew's father, Bob Maniago, in a statement released by police.
"As a family, we need closure and we are desperate for answers. We cannot go on knowing that there might be someone out there who can help us understand what happened. Our family is forever changed, forever damaged and we will forever suffer."
