A Calgary couple charged with the malnutrition related death of their son last year was granted bail on Tuesday morning.

Jennifer Clark, 38, and Jeromie Clark, 34, will be released on a $5,000 bond.

They are charged with criminal negligence causing death and failure to provide the necessaries of life in the death of their 14-month-old son.

An autopsy revealed the baby died from a staph infection that was complicated by malnutrition.

According to police, the family followed a strict dietary regimen based on an extreme interpretation of their faith. They are Seventh Day Adventists.

Among the conditions of their release, the couple are not allowed to be near anyone under the age of 14.

They are allowed visits with their other two children, but only under supervision.

The couple will return to court at the end of January when a date will be set for a preliminary hearing.
