Calgary Glenmore byelection to be held Sept. 14
Voters in Calgary Glenmore will head to the polls on Sept. 14 for a byelection to choose a new MLA.
Voters in Calgary Glenmore will head to the polls on Sept. 14 for a byelection to choose a new MLA.
The constituency's former representative, Ron Stevens, resigned on May 15 and was appointed an Alberta Court of Queen's Bench judge less than a week later.
Alberta's political parties have already announced their candidates:
- Calgary city councillor Diane Colley-Urquhart has been acclaimed for the Alberta Conservatives.
- Psychiatrist and health-care activist Avalon Roberts is running for the Alberta Liberals.
- Eric Carpendale, 29, an electrician who works for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union, is carrying the banner for the provincial NDP.
- Paul Hinman, who stepped down as party leader, is running for the Wildrose Alliance.
- Social Credit Leader Len Skowronski will be seeking the party's first seat since 1982.
The Tories have held the riding of Calgary Glenmore since 1969.
