A Calgary family is getting ready to move back into their home after it was trashed four months ago by people who rented it through Airbnb.

The home was rented by some people who partied all weekend. They left garbage, toilets plugged with condoms and damaged furniture.

Mark and Star King have been living in a condo with their two boys ever since — a cost paid for by Airbnb.

The company has also paid for the repairs and replacing their damaged furniture and decor. The total could reach more than $200,000.

Still Star isn't sure how it will feel to go home in a couple of weeks.

"It's really hard to know, to be honest, until they actually give us our key and we walk in and go, 'OK, can we live here until we make our move to the U.K. Can we actually call this place our home,'" she said.

Airbnb paid thousands of dollars more to decontaminate the household contents, most of which ended up in the landfill.

As for renting out their home again, Mark says they are on the fence.

"There's a reason why this story has gone all over the world because it's so strange," he said. "I'm sure there is many mishaps in renting your house, but this was an extreme situation. I think we wouldn't be freaked out to rent again."
