Calgary-Elbow voters choose Gordon Dirks as MLA

Alberta Education Minister Gordon Dirks has won a seat in the legislature in the Calgary-Elbow riding.

Riding had been held by former Premier Alison Redford until her resignation

Alberta Education Minister Gordon Dirks has won a seat in the legislature in the Calgary-Elbow riding.

The Progressive Conservative Party had 4,207 votes in the unofficial results, while Alberta Party Leader Greg Clark took second place with 3,412 votes.

"This was a great day for the PC Party in Alberta," Dirks said to supporters in his victory speech.

Dirks told the crowd he will be "[Calgary-Elbow's] champion in the government" and promised to be the voters' servant.

He says he always considered the riding to be winnable.
