Calgary 'potentially' sets world record for dogs in bandanas
It's not official, but there were a lot of scarf-clad canines in the city on Saturday
It was a potentially record-breaking morning in Calgary Saturday.
The Calgary Humane Society potentially set a world record for the most number of dogs wearing bandanas at one location and time.
Confirmation of this record will take a little time, but the event was also a fundraiser aiming for the generous goal of more than $100,000.
The last official record in this category was set in Canberra, Australia, on May 17, 2015 with 764 dogs.
Calgary potentially exceeded that record as 813 bandana sporting dogs descended on South Glenmore Park.
Sage Pullen McIntosh of the Calgary Humane Society says this year, record-breaking or not, they have blown previous years out of the water.
"This is a huge fundraiser for us and a lot of people come out and typically every year we get between 500 and 700 dogs," she said.
"So we thought we can beat that. We can do this. And a really nice way to involve some of our sponsors, some of our volunteers, some of our donors."
