Victim identified after daytime shooting in southwest Calgary

Police have identified a man who was killed in a daytime shooting in the southwest community of Crestmont on Wednesday afternoon.

Calgay police have identified a man who was killed in a daytime shooting in the southwest community of Crestmont on Wednesday afternoon.

Avinder Singh Toor, 37, was identified as the man killed following an autopsy. Toor's dog was also killed in the shooting, but police said the breed of the dog is unknown at this time.

Police said a burned-out vehicle was located at a rural location outside of Cochrane by RCMP shortly after the shooting. It is believed to be connected to the investigation.

The shooting happened in the 500 block of Cresthaven Place S.W. around 1:30 p.m., police said.

Toor was declared dead at the scene after police and paramedics responded.

Police believe the shooting was not random.

No nearby houses are believed to have been struck by bullets, and further information related to the number of gunshots or suspects involved will not be released by police at this time.
