POW! Parade of Wonders takes over Calgary's downtown streets
Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo event kicks off this weekend's festivities
Happen to see Wolverine brandishing his claws in downtown Calgary this morning? Not to worry, as he was most likely joining in the Calgary Expo's POW! Parade of Wonders.
"It just seems to keep growing, and growing," said a spokesperson who goes by Emily Expo, as music blares across an Olympic Plaza filled with costumes. "I've been told about 2,000 this year ... but we are still working on the final numbers."
Nenshi selfie
Mayor Naheed Nenshi takes his annual #POWParade selfie with the thousands gathered at Olympic Plaza in downtown Calgary after the parade worked its way from its Eau Claire starting point Friday morning.
John Barrowman
One of the stars of the hit TV series Arrow, John Barrowman is also known for his work on Doctor Who, Torchwood and The Flash.
Jesus
No, not that Jesus. It's Paul "Jesus" Monroe from the TV series The Walking Dead. While he is smiling to Calgary Expo fans, Tom Payne's character is not super jovial during the zombie apocalypse.
Orphan Black
Kristian Bruun, left, gets distracted by the Calgary Tower as he rides with Orphan Black co-star Kevin Hanchard, centre, and show director John Fawcett.
BB-8
This may just be the cutest BB-8 ever, a tribute to the Star Wars sidekick in The Force Awakens. The youngster wasn't really rolling but more strapped to dad for support.
Pokémon
This bright inflatable Pikachu was tough to miss even in a crowd of costumes.
Darth Maul
It wasn't the warmest day outside, but it didn't stop this topless Darth Maul from taking to the Calgary streets downtown.
Snow White
Riki LeCotey, also known as Riddle, is a Canadian cosplayer. Here she's all dressed up in Snow White.
TARDIS
This youngster dressed as the TARDIS from Doctor Who had some mobility issues during the parade.
Nenshi's sneakers
Nenshi even dedicated his sneaker selection to Marvel legend Stan Lee during the Calgary Expo kickoff.
Vikings
The Vikings are coming! ... er, down Stephen Avenue on the way to Olympic Plaza.
