RCMP in Chestermere are searching for a car reported stolen in Calgary earlier this month, which they believe may be connected to a fatal shooting.

Police were called Monday to a home in the West Creek Mews area of Chestermere, east of Calgary, where they found a 41-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim, Dennis Lewis, was rushed to Foothills hospital but was pronounced dead soon after arriving there.

Schools in the area were briefly locked down as a precaution, but once police determined there was no threat to the community, the buildings were reopened.

RCMP said the incident wasn't random, and the major crimes unit, forensic identification services, Strathmore RCMP and police dog units have joined the investigation.

The vehicle was reported stolen by its owner from the Inglewood area in southeast Calgary on Nov. 3.

Police want to find out where the car was and who was using it between Nov. 3 and Nov. 27.

They're also hoping someone with a dashcam might have seen the vehicle in Chestermere on Nov. 26.
