Calgary bus incident being investigated as possible hate crime
Passenger became verbally abusive to driver and yelled racial slurs, police say
Calgary police are looking into an alleged assault on a city bus driver as a possible hate crime.
On Sept. 3, a woman boarded a bus that was headed south on 18th Street near 69th Avenue S.E. It happened about 11:40 a.m.
Police say the woman became verbally abusive toward the driver soon after getting on the bus, allegedly yelling racial slurs.
The driver then pulled over and told the woman to get off.
She did, but not before throwing a slush drink at the driver, police say.
The woman then fled.
She is described as Indigenous, five foot four with a medium build. She is believed to be in her 20s. She was wearing a pink hoodie and black pants at the time.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 403-266-1234 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
