Calgarian wants province to clean up Gas Plus site
A Calgary man is calling on the province to step in and clean up a contaminated gas station site in Bowness.
It's been more than two years since thousands of litres of fuel leaked from a Gas Plus station in the community.
Environmental charges were laid and in January a ministerial order was issued, demanding the company remove contaminated soil.
Alberta Environment says a small amount of work has been done nearby, but there's been no excavation on site.
Andy Ross, who owns a property nearby, said he wants the province to clean up the site and send the bill to Gas Plus.
"It's clear Gas Plus doesn't want to remediate their site in the way that the orders spell out for them to remediate it," Ross said.
A spokesperson for Alberta Environment says the department has applied for a court order to force the company to clean up the site, and that is currently the next step in the process.
