Calgary's Brookfield Place throws shade on The Bow

Calgary's tallest building, The Bow, will have to settle for second place from now on in the race to the top as Brookfield Place surpasses it.

Calgary's tallest building will have to settle for second place from now on as construction on a new tower in downtown officially marked a milestone this week.

Brookfield Place is now 247 metres at its highest point, compared to The Bow's 236-metre height.

Brookfield spokesperson Andrew Willis says the core of the building is at the 56-storey level while the steel exterior is currently 54 storeys.

Brookfield Place is now the tallest building west of Toronto.

Construction will continue into late 2017.
