Facelift for Calgary community to feature work from local artists

A local group tired of seeing graffiti all over the utility boxes in Bridgeland have launched a beautifying initiative.

After receiving a grant from the City of Calgary, volunteer artists will soon be painting images that have been suggested by residents on utility boxes now covered in graffiti.

Andrea Lau says promoting local artists is only the beginning of the Bridgeland facelift.

"There's going to be lots of community art projects, larger scaled murals that are planned for Bridgeland, and we're just firming up all the details," she said. "There's a lot of exciting projects planned for the upcoming year."

The city is looking for more artistic or creative ideas to fund around Calgary, and is giving away 27 grants a month worth $1,200. Go to gigyyc.com to apply.
