Boobs and books: Naked Girls Reading event returns to Calgary
Anyone interested in literary events, boobs and books are welcome, producer says
Naked Girls Reading is exactly that.
It's nude women reading out loud from books to an audience.
That's how the event producer Keely Kamikaze described it on the Calgary Eyeopener on Wednesday.
"Anybody who is interested in literary events, interested in boobs, or books, you are welcome to come," said Kamikaze, using her burlesque dancer stage-name.
"A lot of women are a little bit shy about their own bodies. We all have our own hang-ups," Kamikaze says.
"It's going to be super incredible for women of all types to get up there and find that power for themselves."
There are five readers per show, and each performer reads twice. Tonight's show's theme is science fiction. The first show featured erotica — fittingly.
Waitlist
Kamikaze says Calgarians aren't shy — with a growing waitlist of women who want to read.
It's women only for reading, because that's how the trend began in Chicago several years ago, Kamikaze says.
However, the audience is open to everyone, so long as they are over 18-years-old.
"Women are beautiful. We're all beautiful in our own bodies. No matter what size [or] age, the fact they are up there baring their souls and their bodies — that's really a pleasurable thing for the audience and the performer," said Kamikaze.
The event gets underway at the INKubator Theatre in Calgary's Eau Claire market at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Tickets are $20 at the door.
