A body was found in a large pond in the northeast Calgary community of Abbeydale Thursday afternoon.

Police say it's a man in his late teens or early 20s. They are working to confirm his identity.

The pond sits next to Stoney Trail. The exit from eastbound 16th Avenue N.E. to southbound Stoney Trail was closed to traffic while police investigated.

A passerby saw the body and called 911. The Calgary Fire Department then deployed its water rescue team, said spokesperson Carol Henke.

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
