Drivers heading north of Calgary on Thursday were advised to use caution, after a blowing snow advisory was issued.
Conditions expected to get better by Thursday evening
Drivers in Calgary and those headed north of the city on Thursday were advised to use caution, after a blowing snow advisory was issued.
Environment Canada put out an alert that wind gusts as high as 60 km/h combined with falling snow could create poor visibility.
The alert was issued for the following places:
- City of Calgary.
- Airdrie - Cochrane - Olds - Sundre.
- Red Deer - Ponoka - Innisfail - Stettler.
- Rocky Mountain House - Caroline.
It was expected conditions would worsen along the QEII corridor — also known as the Queen Elizabeth II Highway — which runs between Calgary and Edmonton.
Areas west of the highway were also under the advisory.
Environment Canada said travel was expected to be hazardous and drivers should apply caution and be prepared to adjust their driving.
The snow and wind were expected to taper off Thursday evening.
