Bigger blue bins tested for Calgary recycling program
Residents interested in participating should contact 311
The city says it's now testing the use of bigger blue carts that have 50 per cent more capacity.
Up to 200 homes across the city will see their existing 240-litre blue cart replaced by a 360-litre version.
The city says it's responding to calls from householders who say their blue carts are usually full to the brim before collection day and they have to look for ways to recycle their extra material.
“While the standard blue cart works for the majority of Calgary households, we’ve received calls from some households whose blue carts are usually full to the brim before collection day and are looking for ways to make it easier to recycle their extra material,” says waste diversion specialist Parnell Legg.
Those interested in participating in the trial should contact 311 or visit calgary.ca/moreblue for details.
