Beltline stabbing a targeted attack, say Calgary police

Calgary police are trying to figure out if a recent stabbing in the Beltline area was gang-related.

A 35-year-old Calgary man remains in life-threatening condition in hospital after he was stabbed around 3 p.m. MT Tuesday.

"Until such time as we can actually determine who was involved and the motive, and determine if it was gang-related — we certainly believe it was a targeted attack," said CPS spokesperson Kevin Brookwell.

"So a lot of unanswered questions that we hope we'll get as we move forward and the key person to speak to will be the victim, once we are able to do that."

Police say the man was attacked in a parking lot. He was approached by two suspects as he was entering his vehicle in the 1300 block of 10 Ave. S.W.

He was able to drive a couple of blocks down the road to the 1000 block of 10th Ave. S.W.

A female who was in the passenger seat of the vehicle was not injured.

The first suspect is described as an Asian man, between 25 and 35 years old, five feet 10 inches to six feet two inches tall, around 200 pounds with an athletic build. He was wearing a grey sweatshirt and black pants.  

The second suspect is described as having dark skin, between 25 and 35 years old, roughly five feet seven inches to five feet 10 inches tall with an average build.  

Police are also looking for a red Honda Odyssey seen in the area with black steel rims and a Stampeders logo on the back window.  

Several police units are involved in the investigation — including the Guns and Gangs Unit.
