The president of the Banff Centre says his resignation was a difficult decision.
Jeff Melanson says it's been difficult to be away from his children who live in Toronto.
“I need to be closer to them so that's why I'm leaving," he said.
"Love the institution. A heartbreaking decision for me. Very difficult to leave this place that I love and so many people that I love who are doing such wonderful things for the world.”
Melanson has been in the job since January of 2012 and will stay on until September.
The Banff Centre says the search for his replacement will get underway immediately.
