A new report from a business advocacy group reports that there is a worker shortage on the Prairies.

The Canadian Federation of Independent Business reports there are 55,000 unfilled private sector jobs in Alberta.

The shortage is concentrated in oil and gas, construction, tourism, hospitality and agriculture.

"One of the interesting things that comes out in the data is that the smaller the firm the harder it is for those business owners to find qualified people," said Richard Truscott, Alberta CFIB director.

Truscott's full interview with CBC Calgary Eyeopener host David Gray is also available here.

Saskatchewan is tied with Alberta at the top of national ranking when it come to demand for skilled workers.
