Rollover crash on QEII shuts down northbound traffic near Olds
Traffic was rerouted for several hours at Didsbury overpass
Northbound traffic on the Queen Elizabeth Highway was rerouted for several hours Wednesday morning after a rollover near Olds that resulted in one man suffering life-threatening injuries, RCMP say.
The single vehicle crash happened at about 9:15 a.m. when a southbound SUV lost control about two kilometres south of the Highway 27 overpass. It rolled over and landed in the northbound lane.
A STARS air ambulance was dispatched and its crew treated an 18-year-old man at the scene who had suffered a head injury, a spokesperson with STARS said. The man was airlifted to the Foothills hospital in Calgary in life-threatening condition.
Another occupant of the vehicle was less seriously hurt, RCMP said in a release.
Traffic was diverted at the Didsbury overpass at Highway 582 for a few hours, but RCMP said Wednesday afternoon both northbound lanes were open.
Motorists were being asked to be aware of emergency personnel and drive to the conditions.
"Ice on the roadway and blowing snow may impact driving conditions," RCMP said.
