Border guards at the Calgary International Airport have made what could be the largest seizure of suspected proceeds of crime in Alberta this year, officials say.

Earlier this week, a man at the airport told Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers he was carrying $2,000.

But another $80,000 in U.S. and Canadian bills was discovered on closer examination of his luggage, the agency said.

The man was unable to prove he had legitimately obtained the money.

The agency is continuing to investigate.
