2 Stoney Trail ring road interchanges to open

The 84th Street N.E. intersections with Country Hills and McKnight Boulevards in Calgary will be permanently closed starting Friday.

The 84th Street N.E. intersections with Country Hills and McKnight Boulevards in Calgary will be permanently closed starting Friday.

The changes will allow motorists to use the new interchanges at those boulevards as part of the Stoney Trail ring road, the province said on Tuesday.

Alternate access points:

  • To 84th Street N.E. from Country Hills Boulevard will be via newly constructed service roads 500 metres east of 84 Street N.E.
  • To northbound 84th Street N.E. from McKnight Boulevard will be gained by driving east to 100th Street (Range Road 285), then north to 80th Avenue, then west to 84th Street.
  • To southbound 84th Street N.E. from McKnight Boulevard will be gained by driving east to 100th Street, then south to 32nd Avenue, then west to 84th Street.

The speed limit on 84 Street N.E. will be reduced to 60 km/h, said the city.

The province also said that the intersection of 16th Avenue and 84th Street N.E. will permanently close in the spring of 2009.

The northeast leg of the ring road, which will extend Stoney Trail from Deerfoot Trail to 17th Avenue S.E., is scheduled to be finished by the fall of 2009.
