Two of Alberta's beer makers brought home prizes this weekend at the 11th annual Canadian Brewing Awards.

Calgary's Big Rock Brewery and Edmonton's Yellowhead Brewery were recognized at the competition. More than 700 beers from 120 Canadian breweries were judged in 38 categories over five days.

The 43 beer judges were certified by the Beer Judge Certification Program and considered five criteria: aroma, appearance, flavour, mouth-ful and the beer's overall impression.

Big Rocks's Grasshopper Wheat Ale won a bronze medal in the "Wheat Beer — North American Style" category.

Yellowhead's Premium Lager also brought home the bronze in the "North American Style Premium Lager" category.

The judges also recognized breweries and beers of the year.

Toronto's Great Lakes Brewery won "Brewery of the Year" and Powell Street Craft Brewery's Old Jalopy Pale Ale won "Beer of the Year."
