Local band members tell CBC's Julie Van Rosendaal about their favourite eats in the city
Everyone has their favourite places to eat — and most of us love discovering new spots around town.
This summer, Julie Van Rosendaal is asking local bands and musicians where and what they like to eat.
Here are a few picks from Emily Triggs and Natasha Platt of Calgary folk-pop quartet Magnolia Buckskin.
Greek ingredients at Kalamata Grocery
"I still drive down to Kalamata regularly to buy the big tins of vine leaves and halva," says Platt.
They have amazing olives and barrels of feta too.

Homemade Gelato at Crepes and Cravings
Few people know about the little shop across from Farm on 17th Avenue, where they hand-make over 30 varieties of ice cream and gelato daily. Their crepes, stuffed with savoury or sweet (yes, gelato) fillings, are pretty divine too.

Shawarma at Tazza in Bridgeland
"Best shwarma ever," says Platt of Tazza Deli & Grill in Bridgeland.
It has long been a favourite of area residents, and draws a crowd from outside the neighbourhood too.

Clive Burgers
Who doesn’t love a juicy Clive burger? Made with natural Alberta beef and wrapped in compostable packaging with the option of a fancy soda, custard shake or a beer or wine to wash it down, it made Platt’s list of great things to eat in the city.

Crossroads Farmers’ Market
"I truly love going to the Crossroads Market," says Triggs.
"The vendors are friendly and always willing to answer any questions you might have. Fresh produce, The Fomagerie, Bow Wows Bakery, a bit of food at Anatolia Turkish Cuisine, Euro Pastry! and then stop by for honey from Ray and Helens Honey House. You can even pick up an item of star wars memorabilia or a Johnny Cash poster on the way out!"

Without Papers Pizza
With a wonderfully chewy, charred crust, Without Papers is great for grown-ups and kids alike, with movies projected onto both walls, high booths and a menu made for sharing. They have gluten-free crusts available, although the girls prefer the real thing.

Kinjo Sushi
If you haven’t been, Kinjo Sushi is a great family spot. Peter Kinjo and his team go out of their way to make kids (and parents) feel welcome, and even offer sushi making classes between January and June.

Pie at the Blackfoot Truck Stop
How rock and roll is it to stop for coffee and a slice of mile-high lemon meringue pie, eaten at the bar at the Blackfoot Truck Stop? You don’t even have to be in a band.

Burgers at the Ship
Triggs is a sucker for a good old-fashioned Ship Burger — with a cold beer to wash it down. Best served on a sunny day on the patio, at $7.50 (with fries or a salad) it’s one of the best deals in town. Or load it up with cheddar, bacon and mushrooms for $9.95.

Tubby Dog
It’s a fun late-night spot. Watch for live bands and monthly specials (this month it’s The Juno Beach bacon-wrapped 1/3 lb. dog), or go on a Tuesday night when it turns into the Tubby Taqueria with some of the best, freshest tacos and tostadas in the city.
