Building on Burns Bog is problematic warns soil expert
The spongy, wet lowland that's going to be home to the PNE and a major theme park has some soil experts concerned.
John Clague, a professor at the Earth Sciences Department at Simon Fraser University, wonders how the developers will get around the problems of building on a bog.
Clague says all the peat in Delta's Burns Bog will compact easily under the heavy weight of a building. And that there's also the danger of the whole area liquefying in the shaking of an earthquake.
