X-Files star loves Vancouver despite the rain

The truth is out there — David Duchovny actually has a soft spot for Vancouver.

The latest movie spinoff of the popular science fiction series the X-Files was filmed in British Columbia and is scheduled to make its big screen debut in late July. 

Without revealing a name or any plot details, producers Chris Carter, Frank Spotnitz and actor Duchovny met with reporters in Vancouver Wednesday to make the official announcement.

The sequel to the 1998 X-Files movie will reunite Gillian Anderson and Duchovny, the stars of the original series, which ran for nine seasons, wrapping up in 2002.

"The movie will feature some of the series' reoccurring characters, but we cannot reveal which ones yet," Carter said.

During its early seasons, the X-Files was filmed in Vancouver, but moved its production to Los Angeles because Duchovny reportedly didn't like the city's climate. According to published reports, he once said Vancouver was OK if you liked 400 inches of rainfall a day.

At Wednesday's news conference, he said the weather was a newspaper-generated, non-existent controversy. 

"I think it's a great place," he said. "I've often fantasized about raising my kids in Vancouver."

Spotnitz and Carter said they were also pleased to have the opportunity to film in Vancouver again.

"Vancouver is what made the X-Files such a great success,'' said Carter.

He pointed out that the city has many assets, including its "tremendous film community and work ethic.''

The X-Files' production crew has wrapped shooting the movie and the actors have returned home.
