Wrongfully convicted Ivan Henry won't get full settlement from B.C.

B.C.'s Supreme Court says the province doesn't have to pay the full amount of a multimillion-dollar award to compensate a wrongfully imprisoned man.

Henry sued the City of Vancouver and the federal and provincial governments but settled with the city and with Ottawa for an undisclosed amount while his case against the province went ahead.

The B.C. government was ordered to pay Henry $8 million in damages last June but the province went back to court, asking for the amount of those undisclosed settlements to be deducted from the award.

The ruling doesn't say exactly how much the province must now pay Ivan Henry, who spent 27 years in prison for sexual assault before a court overturned his conviction in 2010.
