Woman in hospital after 'serious assault' at UBC student residence
Suspect was being held down by another male when police arrived
A woman is in hospital with non-life threatening injuries after what police are calling a "serious assault" at a student residence at the University of B.C.
RCMP were called to the residence in the 2500 block of West Mall at about 11:30 a.m. PT to find one male "apprehended" by another, said Sgt. Annie Linteau.
"The male suspect was apparently held down until we arrived," she said.
The victim and suspect are known to each other, she said, but declined to comment further on the nature of their relationship or the alleged assault.
The suspect is in custody, and the public is not at risk, said Linteau.
Linteau would not say at which student residence the alleged assault took place. Both Totem Park and Ritsumeikan-UBC House have addresses in the 2500 block of West Mall.
