Ferries cancelled as high winds hit Metro Vancouver, Gulf Islands
Gusts could reach 90 km/h in some areas
Several BC Ferries sailings between the mainland and Vancouver Island were cancelled Friday due to high winds blasting across the Strait of Georgia.
Tsawwassen to Duke Point, Horsehoe Bay to Departure Bay, Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay, and Westview to Little River are all cancelled as of Friday afternoon.
BC Ferries said it will resume service "as soon as it is safe to do so."
Reserved customers who have not checked in will be advised of the cancellation and their reservation fees will be automatically refunded.
Wind warnings are in effect for Metro Vancouver and the Southern Gulf Islands. Winds between 70 and 90 km/h an hour were recorded Friday morning and afternoon.
The wind is expected to ease in the afternoon before picking up again overnight. It is expected to ease Saturday morning.
