Victoria bus driver assaulted with urine, vomit while on the job: union
Union says driver of double-decker Route 72 bus was also verbally assaulted on Sunday night
A Victoria bus driver was showered with urine and vomit while on the job, says the union representing her.
The bus driver, who has not been named, was allegedly assaulted by a large group of drunken youth who boarded a double-decker bus on Route 72 heading downtown around 12:30 a.m. PT on Sunday.
Once onboard, the group allegedly headed for the upper deck and somewhere along the route, at least one of the group urinated on the floor, while another one threw up and some of the fluid dribbled down onto the driver.
"On her hair, her face, into her eye as well as all over her clothing," said Ben Williams, the president of Unifor Local 333.
'Unfortunate and disgusting'
B.C. Transit spokesperson John Barry says there was "quite a mess" left behind by the group. "It was quite unfortunate and disgusting."
The union says the driver was also subjected to verbal abuse when the group got off the bus.
She later went to hospital to have her eyes flushed out and had blood tests taken to be make sure she wasn't exposed to any communicable disease, says Williams.
B.C. Transit recently launched a pilot program that places security cameras on 75 buses in the Capital Region, but Barry says this bus wasn't one of them.
Victoria police are investigating the incident.
