More than 50,000 participants are expected to take part Sunday in Canada's largest 10-kilometre road race.

The Vancouver Sun Run, now in its 30th year, kicks off at 8:40 a.m. PT as the competitive wheelchair racers leave the starting line at Burrard and Georgia.

The first wave of runners takes off at 9 a.m. PT, with four more waves of mass-departures to follow.

Participants follow a route that skirts the edge of Stanley Park, traces the outline of English Bay, dips across the Burrard Street Bridge into Kitsilano and Fairview, and then finishes back downtown near the south end of the Cambie Street Bridge.

Many roadways along and near the Sun Run route will be closed, some as early as 5 a.m., so check the full list before heading downtown.

TransLink says that extra train, SkyTrain and SeaBus trips are being added to accommodate the expected crowds, and that bus service in Vancouver will operate as per usual Sunday schedules, with detours around the Sun Run route areas.
