Vancouver special constable charged with assault at police jail

Prosecutors have approved one charge of assault against a Vancouver special municipal constable in connection with an incident at the police jail last year.

Prosecutors have approved one charge of assault against a Vancouver special municipal constable in connection with an incident at the police jail last year.

The charge was sworn against Omar Ahmed Flores on Thursday, according to a statement from the B.C. Prosecution Service.

The alleged assault took place in the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) jail on Jan. 7, 2023, but prosecutors haven't released any further details about what happened.

Flores is scheduled to make his first appearance in Vancouver provincial court on Jan. 24.

Special municipal constables are employed by the VPD to work as jail guards, traffic authorities and community safety officers.
