Vaiskahi, which commemorates the birth of the Sikh nation, has been celebrated for thousands of years as a time to welcome spring, a time for new life and a chance to bring community together.
Organizers say tens of thousands of people attended this year's parade and festival, a boon for businesses in the Punjabi Market which have lately fallen on tough times.
