An early morning house fire kept fire crews busy Saturday in the Cedar Cottage area of East Vancouver south of Trout Lake.

Flames burned right through the roof of one of the few standalone houses on that section of Commercial St. near East 22nd Ave.

Neighbours awoke to sirens and told CBC News that nobody had occupied the home for some time.

The street is a mix of condo buildings, stores and houses.

Reports of smoke came in from many parts of Vancouver, as far away as downtown, as firefighters worked to control the blaze.

A cause has not yet been determined.
