The University of British Columbia says it's "confident" the person who burned a pride flag on campus last weekend has been identified.

The flag was raised last Friday as part of the UBC Pride Collective's OUTweek activities and was discovered missing on Tuesday morning. The university says a subsequent investigation determined it had been burned over the Family Day long weekend.

UBC officials they believe it was an isolated incident.

The UBC Pride Collective cancelled a march in support of transgender people that had been scheduled for Wednesday as a safety precaution.

Other events planned for the week went ahead as scheduled, with some extra security precautions.

A spokesman for the collective said the university and the school's Alma Mater Society were supportive and had spoken out against the incident.

On Wednesday, the City of Vancouver raised its rainbow pride flag in solidarity.

The university says it will continue to cooperate with the RCMP regarding their investigation.
