Transit referendum: UBC's A Cappella club hits the Yes note
Club's rendition of the Beach Boys' 'I Get Around' is the latest viral video in the campaign
Members of University of British Columbia's A Cappella club have lent their voices to the Yes side in Metro Vancouver's transit referendum.
The group's I Bus Around parody of the Beach Boys 1964 hit I Get Around urges students to vote in the upcoming referendum.
The regional plebiscite is asking resident to vote on a new 0.5 per cent sales tax to fund a range of transit and transportation improvement projects over the next ten years.
The video's had about 2,000 hits by Wednesday morning, after it launched on UBC's Alma Mater Student Society's YouTube page on Monday.
If the Yes side wins the referendum, UBC students will reap the benefits of the proposed $8 billion in transit improvements, they say.
While the AMS is supporting the Yes side, other organizations such as the Canadian Taxpayers Federation are urging people to vote No saying families can't afford the tax.
Voting packages are being mailed out to registered voters now and voting closes May 29.
