Transit Police looking for man in violent SkyTrain attack
Man allegedly punched woman in the face multiple times and shoved her out of a Skytrain car
Transit police are asking the public to help identify a man who allegedly punched a woman on a Vancouver SkyTrain and then pushed her through the open doors.
Police say a woman boarded the SkyTrain at Waterfront Station early Saturday, April 25. She was approached by a man on the same train who had been staring at her, according to a statement from the Metro Vancouver Transit Police.
Police say the woman asked the man if something was wrong, and he responded by saying, "you people are why my daughter is sick." Police say the woman is a young adult and a visible minority.
The man allegedly grabbed the woman's bag and punched her multiple times, then pushed her through the open doors of the train at Burrard Station. Police say the woman's cellphone was also taken and thrown against a wall.
MVTP says the woman suffered a cut above her eye, a bloody nose and significant swelling to her face. Two passersby helped recover her bag.
Police are now looking for the man, who left the train at King George SkyTrain Station.
He is described as South Asian, about 40 to 50 years old and is roughly five feet five inches to five feet seven inches tall, with a medium build and a salt-and-pepper beard. He was wearing a black jacket, a green hoodie and blue jeans.
Transit police say the level of violence used by the suspect is concerning and ask anyone with information about his identity to contact them at 604-516-7419 or by text message at 87-77-77.
