All Kwantlen campuses cleared after temporary closure due to threat
Buildings on 5 campuses were evacuated 'out of an abundance of caution' after threat reported to RCMP
All five campuses of Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) have been cleared, and RCMP say there is no risk to public safety after a threat was reported to police.
In a written statement, Surrey RCMP said they received information regarding a threat made to KPU around 9.a.m. on Wednesday.
The school announced at 11:30 a.m. that buildings were being evacuated and classes were cancelled for the rest of the day.
The school wrote on its website that the threat was not specific to any one campus, but that they were evacuating students and employees out of "an abundance of caution."
Officers conducted searches at all KPU locations with help from the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Services, the Explosives Devices Unit, and the Metro Vancouver Transit Police.
Surrey RCMP is continuing to investigate the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502, or contact Crime Stoppers if you wish to remain anonymous, at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca.
